Mr. Sunshine - S1 E5 - Crystal on Ice

Roman moves in with Ben, Crystal feuds with the Smurfs and Andrea Anders is insecure about her relationship with Alonzo.

Spoilers after the jump.

It's official: This show is awful. They showed signs a few episodes back that they could make Crystal a very interesting character but somewhere along the way that fell apart and they just made her plain crazy instead. She's supposed to the owner/CEO of the Center, right? She sure doesn't act like that at all. Hey I'm not asking for any ultra-realism, but there's gotta be some method to the madness. Roman is just plain annoying. They tried to add an idiot savant quality to him which could be cool if played right but he's just so over the top I can't see it.

Linda from Better Off Ted clearly is worried that Alonzo is too good for her. I'm waiting for him to be revealed as an axe-murderer or something, he has that kinda look. The chemistry in this relationship is weird. I get the feeling he's into it but she's not at all. That could be incredibly good acting given it will probably break down so she can try to make something happen with Ben, but I think it's a better guess to say Andrea Anders doesn't really buy into it either.

Ben's description of the feeling of wanting to help people as a disease is the sort of thing I'd usually find amusing but for some reason it just felt hollow in the context of the show. It certainly didn't ring true for me that he'd be interested in any way how Alonzo and Linda from Better Off Ted's night went. There was only one laugh out loud moment in the episode for me, when Crystal and Roman agree that Roman should continue living with Ben... assuming it's OK with Ben, because they don't include him in the decision. This show is still salvageable but it's heading in the wrong direction for sure.

"Mr. Sunshine" airs Wednesdays on ABC at 9:30 pm EST.
