How I Met Your Mother - S7 E6 - Mystery vs. History

Ted has a date with a girl but is determined not to Google (or Goggle as Walter Kenney would say) her first. Marshall and lily are desperate to avoid knowing the gender of their baby while Kevin is perturbed by the group dynamic.

Spoilers after the jump.

1 - It's harder to prepare if you don't know the sex of the baby.

2 - I got it, Marshall. :)

3 - What a nasty trap.

4 - (of Annie Hall) It IS slow and overrated.

6 - She probably already researched him.

7 - It looks more like vomit color than yellow.

8 - He also just likes making presentations.

11 - That's disgusting.

12 - Love the montage.

Talk about being an architect, dude.

13 - But isn't he right?

14 - Bad move, Marshall

19 - See, they ruined it for him.

20 - (It's a boy!) Just what Marshall wanted all along.

This was an entertaining episode in isolation, but the central conceit was a a little tough to swallow for me - do people really Internet sleuth prospective partners, that is to say people they've actually met? I don't have a smartphone, just a stupid one, so the scene in the bar where everyone is playing on theirs struck me cold also. Kevin had mentioned previously that the current group dynamic was untenable and now, having seen it up close and personal, his grievances are magnified but for now he has been shouted down - How long will it take for everything to fall apart for real? Lily will no doubt be the first to withdraw - pregnancy can change a person woman.

"How I Met Your Mother" airs Mondays on CBS at 8:00 pm EST.
